In 2000, Tisa was the first woman to run for Governor of American Samoa. A pre-election edition of the Samoa Post Newspaper ran the front-page headline: TISA RUNS BAREFOOT FOR GOVERNOR.
A photograph showed Tisa wearing the huge wild boar tusk necklace and winning smile that could belong only to "the wild woman from Alega". Once again, international journalists followed and Tisa's legend continued to grow.
With her high visibility and outspoken ways she is able to focus attention on the issues dear to her heart: the environment, women's rights, human rights, self-sufficiency and sustainable development. |
